What is the Difference between Marijuana and Hemp?
Both cannabis (marijuana) and industrial hemp belong to the genus Cannabis Sativa L., but are very different plants.
Imagine two cavemen, Joe Rope and Joe Medicine, who are interested in the original cannabis plant. Joe Rope admires the plant for its long, sturdy fibers and its ability to produce a large amount of raw material in a short time. Joe Medicine discovered that the smoke of the burning dried cannabis flowers makes him feel better.
Joe Rope collected the seeds from the most sturdy cannabis plants and threw them near the river to grow. Joe Medicine collected the seeds from the most powerful medicinal plants and planted those. Thus the plant began its bifurcation. As Joe Rope choose the seeds from the tallest and strongest plants, his plants became better and better for rope. As Joe Medicine choose seeds from the most psychoactive plants, his plants became better and better for medicine.
Of course, the story of the two Joes is only a silly metaphor, but a simple example to aid in understanding. Hemp is a strong, fibrous plant with little active ingredients. Cannabis is smaller and laden with psychoactive molecules.
Since the bifurcation, industrial hemp has seen only a few genetic modifications, but medicinal cannabis has undergone countless crossings and interbreeding, ever searching for just the right plant with the right qualities for the right effect.
What is CBD oil?
CBD (cannabidiol) is one of more than 60 compounds belonging to a class of molecules called “cannabinoids.” CBD is non-psychoactive (does not produce a high) and is 100% legal. The pure CBD oil in our products is processed from organically grown hemp, free of pesticides and herbicides. It is “full spectrum” oil, meaning that it contains a medley of all the cannabinoids in hemp, not just the CBD. Our CBD oil is laboratory tested for both purity and strength, allowing us to both accurately determine the precise amount of CBD in each product and achieve maximum consistency.
Why CBD from Hemp?
Interest in CBD oil derived from hemp has surged in recent years. Science has proven that CBD (cannabidiol) and other natural plant substances from the industrial hemp plant stimulate our bodies’ own signaling network, the endocannabinoid system (ECS), to restore cell health. The raw oil can be taken orally as a dietary supplement or used in topical preparations for relief from pain, inflammation and minor skin ailments.
What is full-spectrum CBD oil?
Although THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol) may be the most well-known molecules in the hemp plant, its chemical profile contains other “sister molecules” such as CBC, CBG, CBN, delta-8 THC and many unstudied minor cannabinoids. All these cannabinoids contribute to what is known as the “entourage effect.” Originally coined by the Israeli team of cannabinoid scientists led by Raphael Mechoulam, the entourage effect describes the interconnected way the individual molecules work together to optimize the positive benefits of the plant’s chemistry.
Our CBD oil is derived by the purest method known today – CO2 extraction. In this process, harmless carbon dioxide gas is brought to the proper temperature and pressure to act as a solvent for the active ingredients in the plant material. The molecules dissolve into the CO2 gas and, when the temperature and pressure change, they drop right out of the gas. Clean. Beautiful. Lab tested and certified.
